LU hosts Driving Experience

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

It's not everyday you see a parking lot full of Nissan 370Z's, but this week it's been a familiar site. Liberty university partnered with former NASCAR driver and central Virginia native Stacy Compton to offer the Liberty Driving Experience by Speed Street Promotions.

"We've been working this program probably two years ago and we sat down with Liberty to talk about what we can do to bring a little awareness and have some fun out here with some cars," said Compton.

This week has been open for Liberty University employees but Thursday it was also open to media. There were three different courses that were offered and with me having a need for speed, I couldn't turn them down.

I did a ride along first just to get a feel for how fast the cars were but soon it was my turn to take the wheel.

I was told I did pretty good for the test run- zero cones knocked down. Now here comes the real deal. I'm still shaking just a little bit but we'll see how it goes.

After racing the head to head course it was on to the cross course where I was timed, clocking in at 34 seconds.

With all the fun that this experience brings, Compton hopes to take it even further by going to other companies or universities.

"Not necessarily just in Virginia. We wouldn't mind going to some other states and doing it with some different companies. Kind of a traveling road coarse experience if you want to call it that," said Compton.

Although I didn't place I didn't walk away empty handed, as I was presented with a "Liberty Experience" trophy.
