Duke Energy spent the past couple of months performing $500,000 worth of upgrades to the park. This was a way to thank the city for allowing the company to use the park as a staging area during the coal ash spill.
The upgrades include an expanded fishing platform, a new boat dock and making the park more handicap accessible.
"Today, thanks to Duke Energy, you see a much better park; a more usable park," Danville Mayor Sherman Saunders emphasized.
Duke Energy also repaved the parking lot in July 2014 after using the park as a staging area.
