E.C. Glass Golfer Competes in Fourth Scott Robertson

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

Entering round two of the Scott Robertson Memorial Tournament we had a few of our local boys in the 15-18 age group towards the top of the leader boards including Lynchburg native Connor Burgess.

Like many of this weekends golfers, Burgess has been playing from the youngest of ages- following a family tradition. The E.C. Glass junior has competed in numerous tournaments over the years but the Scott Robertson is a special one. This is his fourth year playing the tournament.

"It feels really cool to be playing against other people that are really good. They're ranked really well nationally and I think it makes me play better just to know how good the competition is and makes you try even harder," said Burgess.

Burgess didn't get off to a great start Saturday after not shooting a birdie or par on the front nine. But he made a surging comeback on the back nine, shooting even par on the last five holes to finish the round at 71.

"I can't complain with even par. I know that scores really well because I'm from around here and played it a lot of times," said Burgess.

As Burgess teed off and made his puts his parents were there watching but you couldn't help but notice a few others on the course also- college scouts. While some would be intimidated at the thought of them watching, Burgess says it motivates him to focus more on his game.

"I think that makes me play better to be honest because I know they're out there watching and I'm more prepared and focus than normal when they're out there," said Burgess.

He hopes to use his clubs in college in the future but with a senior year ahead of him, he will let the fairways and the greens help show him the way. Burgess will enter Sunday's final round tied for fifth at even par.
