ROANOKE (WSLS10) - A group of sailors left their uniforms at home and picked up hammers to help volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. It's part of Navy Week here in the Star City.

About a dozen sea men are helping build and put the finishing touches on a home along Fairfax Avenue. The walls and roof are up. Now, volunteers are adding trim, baseboards and doors.

"It's always nice to give back to the community and help people out that are from here," said Jason Long, a second class officer in the United States Navy and a Roanoke Recruiter. "That's what we try to do as recruiters. We try to help everybody out, better their lives, go out and do more stuff -- whether it's getting money for college or just being able to travel the world -- it's all about helping people."

Once the house is done, it will be dedicated to a family on July third.
