Hicks, Green and Blackwell Take Top B'nai B'rith Honors

ROANOKE (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- The finest scholar-athletes in the area were honored at the 66th annual B'nai B'rith awards.

The winners are judged on one-third athletics, one-third academics, and one-third community service. There was a slew of talent in the room from high schools around the Roanoke Valley to the NRV and beyond.

The overall female winner is Glenvar's Haley Green. The three-sport star for the Highlanders is an academic standout as well. She is headed to Brown on a basketball scholarship.

"It's a lot of work and a lot of stress but it's all worth it I love playing the three sports that I play and I love getting the opportunity to represent my school, " explains Green.

On the boy's side, Cave Spring's Brody Hicks takes the top award. The Knights basketball star is very active in the community and is headed to Liberty University in the fall.

"It's definitely a blessing just because I know a lot of these people here and some of these guys and girls are some of my great friends and I know how highly I think of them so just to be nominated is such a blessing for me it's an honor," says Hicks.

The Artie Levin personal life award goes to Patrick Henry's Christian Blackwell.  The star lacrosse player was the Wendy's HS Heisman winner from Virginia.
