Galax man charged in double homicide

GALAX (WSLS 10) - A Galax man is facing charges in connection to a double homicide.

Richard Nofsinger, Jr., 36, was charged with one count of capital murder and one count of first-degree murder for the deaths of Alyssa Anne Kenny, 28, and her daughter Anastasia Leeanne Alley, 21 months.

Members of the Galax Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office made the arrest on Tuesday.

Both victims were found dead on March 10 at their home on Laurel Street.

The police chief had said that the home environment and physical condition of the victims led investigators to believe it was an attempted burglary.

At the time, officers were questioning a person of interest who was not the child's father.

Nofsinger is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

Police say this is still an active investigation.
