DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Danville firefighters are raising money to help people suffering from muscular dystrophy.

The firefighters were out at Sam's Club in Danville for more than 10 hours collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Most of the money raised will be used to send local kids with muscular dystrophy to a special camp at Smith Mountain Lake in June.

The firefighters also took time to help customers load up their groceries.

"A lot of the kids are in wheelchairs and they just don't get to experience, like, going to the beach and stuff," said Jeff Guill, MDA Coordinator for the Danville Firefighters Local 2532.

Guill knows first hand how important this camp is, as his daughter has Charcot Marie Tooth disease and has been to the camp herself.

"They get to be there with kids that have similar disabilities and they just feel like one big family," Guill explained.

The firefighters will back at Sam's Club collecting donations on May 20th and 27th.
