ROANOKE (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- Tyler Brown was introduced as the new head football coach at Northside High School on Wednesday night at the Roanoke County School Board Meeting, and immediately filled the room with an infectious enthusiasm which made him the popular choice for the job. The special education teacher at Northside served as an assistant coach at the school from 2012-2014, where he was defensive coordinator for the 2013-14 seasons. Prior to the Vikings, Brown was an assistant football coach for Eastern Montgomery High from 2009-2012. The Mustangs reached the state final game under Coach Mark Poston during his tenure.
"We said the one thing walking in- we are looking forward. We have Pulaski County in just in a few short months, a couple months and going up to Pulaski County sure is a task big enough for itself and it's time to go. There's no time to look back it's time only look forward and that's what I told the boys today as I met with them. That's the way we feel as the staff-- we're ready to get to work, explains an excited Coach Brown.
Brown is a graduate of Glenvar High School who played football for Chowan University in North Carolina before transferring to Ferrum. Brown holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from Mary Baldwin.
I couldn't be more thrilled I really couldn't I couldn't be more blast to be a member of the North Roanoke community at Northside high school being a teacher there knowing the coaches and the things that of been through those hallways and the tradition of winning that's winning that that's there and I just couldn't be more blessed," says Coach Tyler Brown.
