RADFORD (WSLS 10) - The Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley is looking to expand this summer.

The goal is to add six new positions by July.

To make this happen, the center is applying for some of the $10 million in additional crime victim grant money that Governor Terry McAuliffe's office announced earlier in May.

The new employees would be responsible for outreach and marketing programs to let more people know where to get help. They would also focus on college campuses, LGBT groups and other under-served parts of the community. Two of the new spots would also be dedicated to helping victims navigate the court system.

"We want every victim of domestic violence and sexual assault to know that we're here for you, and that hopefully there are some things that we might be able to help you with," said executive director Pat Brown.

The center is expected to find out if its grant application gets approved by mid-June.

The Women's Resource Center served 4,000 people in the New River Valley last year.
