Danville, Pittsylvania Co. nearing start of construction at Berry Hill mega site

DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Industrial development leaders in Danville and Pittsylvania County are taking the next step towards construction at the city and county's joint Berry Hill industrial mega site.

On Monday, the regional industrial facility authority voted to not renew the hunting lease that had been in place for the portion of the site that the county is now preparing to start grading.

The authority did, however, vote to renew the hunting leases on two other portions of the site.

Some members questioned whether this would be a safety risk with development now set to begin, but the legal counsel for the authority assured members that the authority is insured and Pittsylvania County's Economic Development Director, Matt Rowe, said the hunting has been very beneficial.

"As far as the individuals that are involved with those leases, they've been instrumental to us as far as monitoring the property, even doing maintenance on the property at times, and just keeping a general eye on the property,"

The leases were renewed for one year.
