FOREST (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- There's no recipe for an undefeated season, but Jefferson Forest first year head girls soccer coach Matt Newton is cooking up what could possibly be one. And the players have bought in.

"He's a really awesome coach, he helps us a lot, mentally and physically and he's been a great coach this season," says JF Freshman Erica Blankenship.

The ingredients for this 13-0 team are 15 upperclassmen, 3 sophomores, and 7 freshman.

"All of them see meaningful minutes. Several of them start. They've been a great contribution to some of our sophomores and our junior and senior class. They've just been able to really gel," explains head coach Matt Newton.

"It's awesome, to have so much young talent and to be able to incorporate them into the team and welcome them. It's been such an awesome opportunity," says senior captain Claire Lee.

There are many freshman on the Cavalier squad this year that contribute to the team, including Eric Blankenship who leads the team in scoring.  The secret sauce in this mix is Blankenship, who has stirred up a team high 19 goals. But she credits not only her fellow freshman, but the whole team.

"We all do travel season together so we all play really well together. And it's really fun to play with the upperclassmen as well," admits Erica Blankenship.

The Cavaliers have had a taste of success but they are focused on the icing on the cake.

"Of course you want to make it to states, that your ultimate goal is to win state, now we're trying to take it game by game," says Head Coach Matt Newton.

"As a team obviously we want to make it to states, but not only that, we want to be playing the best we can every time. And giving 100% every time," says Lee.

Jefferson Forest will take the rest of the season in stride.. and are hungry to stay unbeaten.
