ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

It's not surprising to see local high school athletes participate in more than one sport but what is uncommon is two injuries in a short period of time. But one Cave Spring senior has used track to assist her basketball career.

In the fall she's on the basketball court but in the spring she's on the track field. Cave Spring senior Taylor White is an all-around athlete.

"I love basketball that's my number one sport. Track is like, uh, but it's kind of keeping me in shape," said White.

Track has been keeping her in shape after suffering two major injuries within a three-year span. While in eighth grade White tore her ACL on the basketball court and missed her entire freshman year, then two years later--

"I tore my other ACL in the same tournament at the same time same month everything and then I had to sit out my junior year as well," White explained.

Despite setbacks on the court what has been constant for White is track. She's found a way to use it as a crutch to help her basketball career as she rehabbed both knees.

This past weekend she competed at the Cosmopolitan track meet where she placed third in the 100 m dash and fourth in the 200 m dash. Track coach Derrick Hollins said her story has been an inspiration to the team.

"When the other kids see someone who's had two knee surgeries and is still out here and pushing and pushing and pushing they all look up to her. They want to do what she's doing out there", said Hollins.

Thanks to her work on the track White is now able to take the court again. In fact just a few weeks ago she signed on to play basketball at Lynchburg College in the fall.

White said, "Hopefully I can do bigger and better things at the next level".

White plans to major in Communication Studies while at Lynchburg College.
