BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Blacksburg Town Council is pushing for a long-term solution at its most dangerous intersection.

During a council work session Tuesday, members stood united for a grade-separated interchange at the US 460-North Main Street intersection. This would allow drivers to use ramps to access 460 without crossing through traffic.

VDOT has said that will not happen any time soon because of funding.

Senator John Edwards and members of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors attended Tuesday's meeting.

Edwards said he will push to get money for the interchange.

This intersection has been the site of four deaths and dozens of serious accidents in the last seven years.

Council members also expressed interest in getting the speed limit reduced to 55 miles per hour through that intersection.

They are considering a short-term plan to eliminate a left turn possibility at that intersection. VDOT indicated that project could happen in the next three to four years.
