When she opened the barrel, she found what appeared to be decaying human remains.

Evidence led investigators to arrest 47-year-old Robert Wozniak. They believe the body is Wozniak's family member.

"Can you imagine that type of end to your life?" said Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown. "I mean to be put up in a barrel and propped up outside of the home?"

Investigators believe the remains are several months old.

Brown said two of his investigators are working on this case. They're following up and interviewing people who know Wozniak throughout the Roanoke Valley.

Wozniak also worked at the Salem VA Medical Center. A spokesperson told us he works as a supply technician and they're taking the allegations very seriously.

Meanwhile, Brown doesn't suspect anyone else is involved and says the community is safe.

"At this point we have no reason to believe we're in any danger to anybody in the neighborhood. If we find out there is we'll certainly notify everybody," says Brown.

In search warrants, several items were taken from the property including a screw driver, a white box with "belly" written on it, a shoe located in a trashcan in the garage, a Wells Fargo letter, an HP laptop and a few other items.
