TAP kicks off 'Paint The Town Purple' for domestic violence awareness

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) --Total Action for Progress is kicking off its Paint The Town Purple for domestic violence awareness campaign.

TAP'S Domestic Violence Services hosted an open house Friday.

It started with a program that included survivors sharing their stories of how the organization helped them get out of a violent situation.

Paint the Town Purple starts May 1 and focuses on raising awareness about an issue that often goes unaddressed.

"Most people don't want to acknowledge it constantly," said TAP's Valentina Arriaga. "The more awareness we bring to it the easier it will be for people to come forth if they are victims or if they are witnesses of it."

TAP Domestic Violence Services works with all victims, including men women and children.
