ROANOKE (WSLS10) - If you're looking to buy a new home in the Roanoke Valley, you may want to act fast. Realtors in the Star City say homes are flying off the market. We found out what's driving sales.

"Today, I'm showing 12 houses; seven to these folks and five to someone else," commented local Realtor Donna Harris, who's also the president of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors. "So, it's going to be a long day."

Harris preps a three-bedroom home, the first stop of many for the Amos family.

"We're viewing the houses and I had my top two houses that I wanted to see and they are already sold under contract," commented Michelle Amos, who's shopping the housing market.

Harris said there's an uptick in home sales. In fact, some homes are selling quicker than buyers like the Amos family, can get their foot in the door. Harris added it's a combination of factors driving the market.

"The confidence is building and home prices are rising which is promoted by or triggered by increased demand and limited supply," commented Harris.

Warmer weather, people moving into the Roanoke area for employment and those looking to upgrade are all contributing factors.

A for sale sign stamps the Amos family's current home. The couple is looking to sell to upgrade to a larger house with more space to grow a family. They told us the listing for their home went up this weekend and already they're received much interest.

"Since then, today's Thursday, we had eight people come and see," said Michelle. "So, it's been a lot, it's been aggressive."

In February 2016, the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors reported 260 units sold for nearly $49 million. In March, 390 units sold for about $69 million.

It's a market where houses are turning fast.

The Amos family is hoping their house will sell soon and that they can get in the door to their potential new home before it's sold all too quick.

According to the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors, the market is in favor of both the buyer and the seller right now. Also, with companies like Deschutes moving in -- home prices are expected to increase.
