ROANOKE (WSLS10)-- Saturday is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and the Roanoke Valley SPCA is hosting a first-of-its-kind race to celebrate.
"Every time you turn around there's some type of 5K, 10K, half-marathon or marathon going on," says Slyvie Peterson, the Director of Community Engagement. "We wanted to do something completely different. We're calling it the Unmarathon. It's for people who want to go out and have fun, but don't necessarily want to run a long way."

The unmarathon, presented by Black Dog Salvage, will be a 0.262 run—or about 460 yards. Serious runners will have the chance to be timed, but for most, it's just a chance to get out and have some fun. The event will be held at Soaring Ridge Brewery and feature live music, games, craft breweries and food trucks.
Registration opens at 11 a.m., with the races beginning at noon. You can find more information here.
