Pettus sentenced to 36 years in prison for murder and other charges

DANVILLE (WSLS) - A judge sentenced Jibri Pettus to a total of 36 years in prison on Thursday morning.

He will serve 20 years for the first-degree murder conviction and 16 years for the other charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny, petty larceny and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Pettus was found guilty on March 24, 2016, of murdering Bennie Sigmon outside Sigmon's home in June 2015.

Prior to the start of the trial, the judge accepted guilty pleas from Pettus for the various burglary charges he was facing in connection with the shooting.
