Four charged in connection to deadly February shooting

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) Four people have been charged in connection to a deadly shooting that happened in February.

On Monday, a grand jury issued indictments against the following individuals in connection with the shooting death of Devontaye Jermaine Johnson.

Andreus Dewayne Royal, age 23, is charged with the following offenses:

Capital murder - VA State Code 18.2-31

Robbery - VA State Code 18.2-58

Burglary with intent to commit robbery while armed - VA State Code 18.2-90

Use of firearm in commission of robbery - VA State Code 18.2-53.1

Use of firearm in commission of capital murder - VA State Code 18.2-53.1

Derek Lamont Hairston, Jr., age 24, is charged with the following offense:

First degree murder - VA State Code 18.2-32

Alexander O'Neal McGuire, age 22, is charged with the following offense:

First degree murder - VA State Code 18.2-32

Jeni Leann Merricks, age 22, is charged with the following offense:

Accessory after the fact to first degree murder - VA State Code 18.2-19

Royal, Hairston, and McGuire were previously charged with offenses in relation to this incident. They are currently being held in the Danville City Jail under no bond. Merricks surrendered to be served today and was released on a $1,500 secured bond.

Police say Johnson was shot and killed February 24 in the 200 block of Halifax Street.
