(WSLS 10) - A winning documentary produced by two Blacksburg students airs on CSPAN today. Mia and Ava Lazar are students at Blacksburg New School. They won first place in CSPAN's national StudentCam competition. They produced a documentary called "What Should be Done about Money in Politics?" That piece runs for the first time this morning at 6:50 and will be seen throughout the day.

The 65th annual Pig Robertson Fishing Rodeo continues today in Salem. Today is Special Needs Children Day. Kids taking part will be allowed to catch and keep up to six trout.

Roanoke County holds focus groups today. County leaders will listen to your feedback and use that to create a strategic plan for the county. The plan will be used to direct spending of tax payer money and the future of the county. Topics being discussed tonight include community health, education, safety and quality of life.

The City of Lynchburg holds a neighborhood meeting tonight at the Fairview Recreation Center. Recent crime in the Fairview neighborhood will be discussed, including recent shootings at Younger Park and on Maryland Avenue. Staff will talk about what's being done to address the issues and people living there will have a chance to voice their concerns and offer possible solutions.

Martinsville City Council holds a neighborhood meeting tonight in the Southside area. Council will tour the neighborhood then talk to people living there in an open forum. Since the last meeting in March, 27 nuisance ordinance violations were given and corrected and three property maintenance notices issued. Two demolition permits were issued in the neighborhood with another expected to be filed soon.

A nearly 16 mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Bedford County will close starting today for repairs. Crews will pave the road and overlooks between milepost 90 and 106. Work will continue through September, but starting in late May, at least one lane will reopen to traffic. Those trying to go to the Peaks of Otter will need to use route 43.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors meets tonight to adopt the county's budget for next year. The board will finalize funding for an EMS crew in the northern part of the county and could also increase the transient occupancy tax by two percent.

The City of Roanoke's E-911 Center will conduct a survey this week. The phone and online study will be used to determine the effectiveness of services provided. Two hundred people will be called at random to take the survey. You can take it online. We have a link at wsls.com.
