DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Some baby raccoons are now safe thanks to the Danville Police Department.

Over the weekend, two officers responded to an elderly couple's home for a 911 call about raccoons being trapped inside a wall.

The mother raccoon had been trapped and taken away a few days earlier, but the babies weren't caught and ended up falling from the attic into the space behind a pocket door in the home.

Southside Virginia Wildlife Center is now caring for the raccoons.

"[The raccoons] were all in the little thing, sticking their little hands out trying to get out and screaming. Once we got two out, we heard the other two; the other two came running," explained Tanya Lovern, the executive director of the SVWC.

The raccoons will be released back into the wild in August or September.
