(WSLS 10) - Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg holds a town-gown meeting. The meetings bring people from the university and town together to talk about common issues. The panel will talk about the importance of art and culture.

Students at Virginia Western Community College will hold a candidate forum tonight. Those running for mayor and city council will attend. Students will conduct the forum and have questions for the candidates.

The American Red Cross Virginia Region holds its 2016 Day of Giving today. The event is designed to gather support for the Red Cross in it mission to half families affected by a disaster. In 2015, the Red Cross Virginia Region helped more than 1,500 families after a disaster. To give to the organization, go to wsls.com for more. Roanoke based medical schools and the Taubman Museum of Art team up today to hold the first ever Interprofessional Arts in Medicine Tour. The tour is designed for students looking to enter the healthcare field. It focuses on visual thinking strategies and improving how students talk about and understand what they see.

C-SPAN will visit Blacksburg New School today to honor students who won the network's student video documentary competition. 8th graders Mia Lazar and Ava Lazar submitted the willing video titled "What Should be Done about Money in Politics?" C-SPAN received nearly 3,00 entries from across the country. The students will win $3,000 with the school getting $500. The documentary airs on C-SPAN on April 25th.

Court Appointed Social Advocates of Central Virginia holds its annual Ladies Night Out fundraiser tonight in Lynchburg. Nearly twenty vendors will be there in addition to a brand name shoe sale. CASA will use the money to recruit, train and support volunteer advocates.

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine will meet today with Merrick Garland. He is President Barack Obama's nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. Kaine is urging Senate Republicans to hold a hearing and vote on Garland's nomination. Senator Tim Kaine met with Garland earlier this month.
