Man charged after Danville school bus crash

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville police charged one man after a school bus crash on Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3:19 p.m., Danville police and rescue personnel responded to the intersection of South Hampton Avenue and Hughes Street for a motor vehicle crash.

Police say the bus was driving southbound on South Hampton Avenue when a white 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck, with Virginia tags, going east on Hughes Street, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of South Hampton Avenue and Hughes Street. The bus hit the truck and the truck then hit a Danville city utility pole.

Police charged 24-year-old Joshua Brandon, of Reidsville, North Carolina, with failure to obey a highway sign.

The driver of the school bus was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

At the time of the crash there were 10 students aged 14-18 being transported on the school bus. There were no reports of students being injured.
