Bath County 7th graders headed to Tennessee for Global Finals

BATH COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A team of seventh graders in Bath County is traveling to Tennessee for competition.

The "Destination Imagination" team is all 7th grade at Valley Elementary School.  They competed in the state finals in Richmond and placed top 3 to earn a spot at Global Finals At University of Tennessee May 23-28.

"Destination Imagination is a Challenge based contest where Teams have to work together to provide solutions to problems. They have to learn how to tackle a wide variety of challenges, whilst sticking to deadlines and meeting budget constraints. All this with No Adult Interference!" said Mandy Brumfiel, the team manager. "The team go to Global Finals where they will perform and compete against over 2000 teams from across the country and the globe. They will also participate in a wide variety of STEM and creative arts workshops run by industry and technology experts such as IBM, NASA, and Disney."

Brumfiel says the biggest challenge yet may be raising the $7,000 by May 6th that they require to pay for transportation, accommodation and food at the 6 day event. You can make a donation on the gofund me page.
