ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Two local middle schools were recognized as "schools to watch" on Thursday.
Both Glenvar and William Byrd Middle Schools received the distinction for their strong leadership, teachers' responsiveness to student needs and their commitment to helping them achieve at high levels.

The two schools are among more than 400 others across the nation to be honored as part of a recognition and school improvement program.
"To see the kids and the parents and the teachers get recognized for all the hard work they do everyday, it means everything," said Glenvar Middle School principal Jamie Soltis. "And then to learn different ways of where we can still grow and still improve because our goal is to give every child the best opportunity we can to be successful.">
Both schools will be honored on Capitol Hill in June and will be up for re-designation in three years.
