BLACKSBURG (via BHS Athletic Director Peter Lyell) - Three BHS Athletes To Sign National Letters of Intent
Blacksburg High School Football Class of 2016
Isaac Johnston: Isaac Johnston has signed a National Letter of Intent with Concord University. Isaac has been a three-year starter at quarterback for the Bruins. His senior season, he threw for 2746 yards, threw 27 touchdown passes, rushed for 3 tds and led the Bruins to a second-consecutive playoff appearance. He was selected as Second Team All-Conference QB for Conference 32 and was honored to play in the Virginia High School Coaches' Association 2015 All-Star Game at Liberty University. During his career, Isaac threw for over 5000 passing yards and 52 tds, while rushing for 12 additional scores. Concord University is located in Athens, WV. Concord participates at the NCAA Division II level, in the Mountain East Conference. The Concord Mountain Lions were a National Semi-Finalist in Division II football in 2014, and Mountain East Conference Champions in 2011 and 2014. Isaac is undecided on his major at this time.

Mikayla Richardson: Mikayla is a gifted student, athlete, and leader who will be attending Virginia Tech. Mikayla is extremely strong-willed to accomplish any goal that she sets for herself, and has developed herself as one of the best well-rounded runners in the state. She has run the 2nd fastest time in BHS history in the 500m indoors, and is a member of the indoor 4x400m relay team that broke both the school and state meet records this year. She's also been a member of the girls cross country team which has qualified for the National Championships the past two years. Mikayla has proven herself to be a charismatic leader with a great sense of humor and drive, naturally drawing the rest of her teammates to achieve for excellence while enjoying the process together. Mikayla will be pursuing a degree in computer science.

Sam Teller: Sam will be attending and competing for the University of Virginia this fall. Not only is Sam a gifted athlete, but he is a naturally talented leader among his peers, and has been someone that the team has looked up to and respected all four years of his high school career. Sam was named the Most Valuable Athlete for the past Indoor season, as the State Champion of the 1000m, 3200m, and a member of the champion 4x800m relay team. He currently holds the 4th fastest times in program history for the 3200m in both Indoor and Outdoor track along with many other program top tens and has competed on the national stage multiple times in National T&F Championships and The Penn Relays. Sam represented Blacksburg High School at the American Legion's Boys State of Virginia and is a class representative in the Student Council. Sam plans to study kinesiology or environmental science.
