BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - The Bedford County Sheriff's office honored several deputies for their heroic actions in 2015.
Three deputies were honored for their teamwork and sacrifice the day of the shootings at Smith Mountain Lake.

The sheriff also recognized two deputies who passed away. We talked to former Lieutenant Darryl Saunders' children who received a shadow box of memories of their father who served in the department for 28 years.
"It's a huge honor," says Christopher Saunders, Darryl Saunders' son. "Obviously, we would give anything in the world to have our dad still here. Dad dedicated his life to be in this public service."
Another deputy was honored for saving a woman who was abducted and attacked in Vinton.
