Northside's Torrence steps down

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS)-  Northside's Burt Torrence has stepped down as head coach of the Vikings football program. School officials confirm his decision on Monday after 10 seasons at the helm. Torrence won a pair of Group 3A state titles and led the Vikings to the playoffs in eight of his 10 seasons as head coach. Torrence will remain a teacher at Northside.

Torrence replaced longtime Vikings coach Jim Hickam in 2006. Hickam held the position for 32 seasons, Torrence the last ten. The Vikings finished 9-3 in 2015, falling to Abingdon in the second round of the 3A West Playoffs.
