BLACKSBURG (WSLS10) - Virginia Tech students came together to focus on technology to improve healthcare. It was part of the Pamplin College of Business first ever "Analytics Hackathon".
The event challenges students to come up with mobile applications to use on cell phones to improve health care services in the New River Valley. Students from all majors including business and medicine are participating in the event.

"I'm really excited to have a lot of student participation especially from the business side, we always get the computer science people, but when we get people from business we start to get the real thinkers, not necessarily the coders, we get the coders, but when we get the business people and people who understand the ideas and aren't really familiar with coding it's really exciting to see," Steve Mirman, a mentor for the Hackathon said.
About 80 students competed on 12 teams in the hackathon.
