DANVILLE (WSLS10) - It has been almost a week since 54 year old Kevin Edmonds was killed on the job at the Goodyear plant where he worked for 26 years mixing batches of rubber.

"He was easy going," said Judy Edmonds, Kevin's mother, as she sat on her couch. "Very humble," Kevin's brother-in-law, Barry Reagan, chimed in.

"Very humble, he was," Kevin's mother said, continuing her son-in-law's comment.

The family didn't want to talk about the details of Kevin's death, only saying that the autopsy revealed that the official cause of death was asphyxiation.

Kevin's brother, Derek Edmonds, and sister, Dana Reagan, say another employee who was in the plant at the time of the accident though did give them an idea of what happened.

"[It] gave us some comfort," Dana said.

Derek added to that, saying "that was the first hand account of what happened and we kind of needed that since we weren't there and didn't know and couldn't see anything. That helped us tremendously."

Kevin's brother says the family is thankful for the way the plant has handled the tragedy.

"We just wanted to sincerely thank all of Kevin's coworkers and Goodyear management for being so kind and compassionate through all of this," Derek emphasized. "It's really meant a lot to us."

Kevin's childhood friend, Chris Knapp, says he will always remember the passion they shared for drumming.

"He had a nice drum set," Knapp pointed out.  "He was just an outstanding drummer."

Kevin also collected model motorcycles and even owned a Harley himself. His family says it was brand new and he had only ridden it for 17 miles.

"God richly blessed our family in sending Kevin to us and now he rests in peace. We take comfort in one day being reunited in eternity with him," Kevin's mother said, reading off of the back side of a photograph of Kevin as she clutched the photograph in her hands.

OSHA is continuing to investigate the death.
