ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A local artist is working under a tight deadline to re-create the new Smith Mountain Lake "LOVE" campaign sign after the original was stolen before it's unveiling.

Roanoke artist Dalton Owens told us he's been working on constructing the letters over the past two weeks. The sign is part of the 'Virginia is for Lovers' campaign.

His first finished piece was stolen from his driveway.

He has a long way to go until this sign is finished, but hopes to get the project done in the next month.

"It's a huge honor to actually put to use my skill set…that will hopefully be around for the next 20-years," said Owens.

Once the sign is painted and finished the SML Chamber of Commerce plans to hold an unveiling to celebrate and showcase his work.
