Lampkins murder trial begins in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY (WSLS10) - A murder trial is underway in Henry County.

Avery and Dwayne Lampkins are being tried for the murder of 55-year-old Curtis "Duke" Pritchett.

Pritchett was murdered after arguing with both Lampkins on March 15, 2015. according to deputies.

Thursday, the prosecution called the lead investigator in the case as the first witness.

During cross-examination, the defense questioned the validity of the line-ups used to initially identify the suspects.

After questioning, the defense asked for a five-minute conference with the judge in chambers.

In all, five individuals were arrested in connection with the murder.

On March 16, 2015, Avery Lampkins turned himself in at the Henry County Magistrate's Office at about 11:30 a.m. Arrest warrants for first-degree murder, use of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon were served on him.

Deputies also arrested 26-year-old Kevin Preston, of Axton, the day after the shooting. He faces one count of accessory to a homicide after the fact.

Dwayne Lampkins, who also goes by "Weed", was arrested at a mobile home at 45 Kimway Drive in the Axton area of Henry County on April 2, 2015. He faces charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In addition to Lampkins, several others were also charged with being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

Albert Patrick Bowman, 30, of Martinsville, was being held without bond in the Henry County Jail. Telvin Oshea Hairston, 22, of Axton, was being held on a secured $5,000 bond in the Henry County Jail. Kierra Rishena Phillips, 20, of Axton, was being held on a secured $5,000 bond in the Henry County Jail and Nicholas Laffeanio Gallant, 27, of Martinsville, was being held on a secured $5,000 bond in the Henry County Jail.
