ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Mountain View Humane will offer nearly 500 spay and neuter surgeries for feral and stray cats during the month of April. This is part of PetSmart charities "Community Cats" campaign.

Besides spay and neuter procedures, the grant money also covers rabies vaccinations.

Management hopes the campaign will help reduce the homeless pet population.

"If you have a boy cat and a female cat that live behind a building, by the next spring you've got 30 cats living behind that building," said Corrie Parter, the facility's assistant manager. "That's why we want to make sure to go ahead and get them trapped, spayed and neutered."

If you are looking to catch a stray, Mountain View Humane has traps available.

The Franklin County Humane Society is also taking part in the month long campaign.
