ALTON (WSLS10) - Virginia International Raceway continued its efforts to help send children with disease, illnesses or disabilities to a camp where they can be with kids just like them.

VIR held its annual Spring Open House on Friday where people paid $25 to drive their own car or bike on the track for 15 minutes. People could pay for as many sessions as they wanted.

All of the proceeds went to Victory Junction Camp, which will be used to help pay for kids to attend the camp.

VIR owner Connie Nyholm said last year's 2015 Spring Open House raised about $20,000 and that she looks forward to this day all year long.

"There couldn't be a better combination than fun for the masses, coming in to southern Virginia to the track and an area they might not otherwise visit, and at the same time raise money for such a great charity," Nyholm said.
