DANVILLE (WSLS10) - As police continue investigating a fatal car accident in Danville on Thursday, neighbors of the woman who was killed are sharing their reactions.

One of those neighbors, 90-year-old Ruth Buckner, is the woman police say caused the accident.

"I looked, and I didn't see anything coming," said Buckner, as she stood in her kitchen recounting how, according to her, she checked for oncoming traffic as she backed out of her driveway just moments before the accident occurred.

Buckner said she had just backed out of her driveway Thursday morning to go across the street and pick up her neighbor, 89-year-old Rachel Buckner.

Ruth was going to take Rachel to get her hair done, but police say as Ruth was changing lanes to get over to Rachel's home, she hit a car in the lane next to her, causing that car to go hit Rachel as she stood at the edge of her driveway waiting for Ruth.

"I got out of the car to see where Rachel was. She was laying up there on the ground," continued Ruth.

The two have been neighbors for decades and Ruth says the whole situation has been hard on her.

Rudy Montgomery has also been a neighbor of Rachel's for decades and said she was like family to him.

"She's a good neighbor, a good friend, and a helping person. She always loved children," Montgomery emphasized.

Ruth said despite what some people may say in the wake of this accident, she believes she is still okay to drive.

"I don't drive at night, but other than that I feel comfortable," she said.

So far, Ruth has been charged with failure to maintain proper control of her car and failure to provide insurance.

Twenty-three-year old Venetia Kennerly, the driver of the car that hit Rachel, has been charged with not having any liability insurance.
