Roanoke County firefighter named hero for donating bike to accident victim

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLSL 10) – We’ve already introduced you to one red cross fire fighter hero this season, but yet another first responder is worthy of being hailed a hero.

In early December 2015 paramedic and firefighter Joshua Dixon responded to a call for a bike versus car.

When he got to the accident on Route 419 the man was okay, but his bicycle was destroyed.

The victim lost his only way to travel, so Joshua came up with an idea and took it to social media – let’s raise money to get this man a new bike.

“Just kind of posted it on Facebook that you know I’m trying to help somebody, thinking that maybe I’ll get a little bit and I’ll just work a little extra overtime and donate the rest just so we can get this guy a bicycle,” Joshua explained.

He wasn’t prepared for the response of our community.

Hundreds of dollars poured in. It was enough to cover the new bike and groceries just before Christmas.

The annual Celebration of Heroes breakfast is set for Tuesday, March 29th at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

If you would like to attend tickets are $30 each.
