ROANOKE (WSLS10) - A group known for one-day knit-in events stopped by Carillon Roanoke Memorial Hospital Thursday to provide a token of comfort to patients.

NOSO Knit donated 50 legacy shawls to the palliative care unit. The gesture is a gift for patients receiving end-of-life care.

50 NOSO knitters from our region worked to make the donation happen.

"It brings a touch of humanity to our patients, and their families, in a time that is very difficult for them," said Clinical Nurse Specialist Phyllis Whitehead. "And so it is such an outpouring of compassion...to see the community knitting a bringing these beautiful, beautiful shawls. It's amazing."

Doctors at carillon told us they give about 500 shawls and blankets each year.
