It was a packed church Thursday afternoon. More than 800 people gathered to celebrate McCoy.

McCoy served the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office for 16 years. Now, the department stands strong alongside McCoy's family.

"Yes, our hearts are sad," said close friend and Roanoke City Sheriff Tim Allen. "We may shed a tear. Jeannie, what we want you to know here today, we'll be here for you."

"He's in heaven," commented McCoy's wife Jeannie. "He's lifting in heaven right now. He's hit the pearly gates. He's knows that we're taken care of. He knows we have this law enforcement family and I'll never be alone."

Jeannie told us his nicknamed was 'Superman'. And all would tell you that nickname was fitting because he was strong through his treatment.

Now, surrounded by the community he served McCoy's pastor reminds us it's not goodbye.

"From our perspective this is not a final goodbye, this is more a 'see you later'," said Pastor Larry Kessler.
