Virginia becomes first state to offer college credit to state inmates

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Virginia is now the only state in the United States offering state prisoners college credit.
On Thursday, Governor Terry Mcauliffe announced prisoners can get credit for five career and technical education courses recommended by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT).

The courses include Introduction to Business, Business and Software Applications, Commercial Arts & Design, Computer-Aided Drafting and Digital Print Production.
After completing the courses, inmates can submit transcripts to colleges and universities. Schools will then decide if the courses will be accepted.
