With a foot of fresh snow on the ground, Riley Phillips went sledding and hit his head on a fence.

Riley suffered a seizure.

Calling 911 for help is usually reassuring, but his mom knew the struggles the ambulance crew would face getting into their steep neighborhood.

"When you were coming out of the house you were looking like straight down over the rest of the valley," recalled Paramedic Dave Flanagan.

"We went with the fire department and they helped clear a path for us," EMT Mike Clark said.

"I don't know if there's anything I even can say," explained Riley's mom, Lisa Phillips. "Thank you, but that just doesn't seem like enough."

They all arrived at Carilion Clinic safely and Riley has been okay since.
