Local schools in VHSL Semi-final action

(WSLS 10 Sports) - Today's action on the hardwood was all about Groups 1A and 2A. Things got started with the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues.

This game was scoreless for the first 3 minutes until Peyton Williams gets the rock and finishes for Northwood. The Lady Blues were held to just six points in the first half. Second half... they cut into the lead after a Hannah Craft jumper but it wasn't enough as Northwood gets the 49-33 victory

On to the 1A Boys side Radford taking on George Wythe. The Bobcats opened the game on a 13-2 run that included this three pointer from Marcus Finley. He lead all scorers with 11 points. George Wythe trailed by as many as 18 in the first half but fought back and opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run including a couple of threes from Jake Martin. But down the stretch Radford was to much to handle as they win 49-33 over George Wythe. They will advance to the 1A Championship Saturday at Noon.

The other 1A Girls matchup had Fort Chiswell against Appomattox Regional Governors School. This one was back and forth as these teams traded baskets early. In the paint its Sadie Smith getting the bucket for the Pioneers. The Dragons had height advantage in nearly every position as you see Aja Boyd finishing on the And 1. That size began to weigh down the Pioneers in as the game continued as Jada Boyd drives to the hoop. Fort Chiswell put up a second half effort but it wasn't enough. The Dragons take down the Pioneers 80-65.

To the other 1A Boys game Altavista taking on Lancaster. Colonels blew a 12 point lead... so it was close down the stretch...Mateo Maulbeck on the break misses the lay up but Lawrence Gaillard is there to clean it up. At the other end Trevon Henderson does the same for Lancaster and they eventually took the lead. Nelson Drews hits a late three but it's not enough as Altavista goes down to Lancaster 52-48.

In Group 2A the Cantrell duo was trying to keep their Floyd Co. team focused against Ridgeview...late in the game Michaela Thompson finishes on the AND 1. Then off the steal Ragan Wiseman gets the lay in she had a double double tonight At the other end the Kayla Mullins returns the favor with the AND 1. Ridgeview maintained their fourth quarter lead and defeat Floyd Co. 72-61.
