(WSLS 10) - Appomattox County holds a Storm Recovery Resource and Infomational Session today. Local leaders and relief agency representatives will talk about the resources available to those affected by last month's tornado including debris management and personal needs. The session takes place at the Evergreen Ruritan Club from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Starting today, there's a new place to shop in the New River Valley. Kohls officially cuts the ribbon opening its newest store in Christiansburg. This store is the 31 to open in Virginia and the first in the New River Valley.

An Appomattox man will be sentenced today after pleading guilty to second degree murder. Police say Aubrey Evans, III killed his estranged wife Laura at the Quik-E gas station in Appomattox in January of 2014. Evans was arrested after police spotted him on Interstate 81 in Washington County.

The Mount Rogers Health District holds a cholesterol clinic today in Bland County. A mobile health unit will be parked at the Health Department in Bland. There's a small cost to have tests done including a lipid panel, blood sugar and bone density. Other clinics are scheduled throughout the district this month.

The City of Danville removes a historical marker today for restoration. The Last Confederate Capitol marker has stood at Sutherlin Mansion since 1939 commemorating the use of the home by Confederate President Jefferson Davis during the last days of the Civil War. Work to restore the marker is expected to take about a week and a half. It's expected to be reinstalled on March 14th.

Dick and Dave's Care for Kids Radiothon kicks off today. The Q99 hosts will raise money for Children's Miracle Network hospitals which includes Carilion Children's Hospital in Roanoke. This is the 16th year for the event. It runs until 7 tonight then tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Danville Regional Medical Center is hosting another neighborhood walk this week. The walk is tonight at 6 p.m. at the main entrance of the hospital. The community walks, along with a vigil, started last month after two people, including a doctor, were shot. The hospital says by coming together, the area can achieve great things like a crime free community.

E.C. Glass High School holds an assembly today to honor the past and encouraging future generations. Guest speakers will talk about their journey, showing how hard work and education help students have successful futures.
