Hidden Valley and William Fleming girls prepare for state quarterfinals

ROANOKE (WSLS SPORTS) - High school basketball state action starts Friday around Virginia, one of the super sites is the the Salem Civic Center.

Hidden Valley is among the 3A teams, the #1 seeded Titans get to play close to home for the state quarterfinals. Led by coach Randy Bush, Hidden Valley has been a force to reckon with this year. With a record of 24-1, the Titans took the conference 32 championship and won the 3A West regional title. Friday the quest for a state championship begins.

"It's a really special year for us, it's cool because we all are not only good basketball players, but we love each other we have each other's back and that is something that comes around every once in a while," said junior Drew Freeland.

"I've told them, we don't know when we're going to get another chance to participate in the state games so have fun but we're also working hard, so we're not taking it lightly at all but yet, we aren't going be so tight that we can't produce either," said coach Bush.

Hidden Valley plays at 8:30pm against John Marshall.

The William Fleming girls will also travel to the Salem Civic Center for the state quarterfinals. The Colonels are 22-5 on the season, coming off a 3 point win over Carroll County to clinch the region 4A West championship. This is the girls third consecutive regional  title and the team hopes their experience and hard work pays off.

"More prepared for it, not that nervous as we were last year, will probably just play better and know what to do more. We are motivating each other just to get better and keep working hard," explained sophomore Dasmine Kasey.

Senior Tyler Poindexter added, "teamwork, dedication, hard work and persevereee through anything because there's never a hurdle that we can't step over."

"That's the goal is to continue to play as hard as you possibly can and bring a victory home for William Fleming High School, not just us as individuals but for William Fleming High School and Roanoke city," coach Hubbard said.

William Fleming plays Huguenot Saturday morning at the Salem Civic Center at 11am.
