APPOMATTOX COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Severe weather hit Southwest Virginia Wednesday. The Evergreen area of Appomattox County was one of the hardest hit areas.
Evergreen's emergency management coordinator says seven people were injured and one person, and adult male, died.

As a result of the storm, a shelter has been opened to help people recover from its effects. The shelter is located at the Appomattox Community Center on Community Lane, and organizers say it will remain open as long as necessary.
