"I thank God that I made it," he said.
The 10th grader was running late for school Tuesday morning and took a short cut. Police said he was walking near the train tracks along Brandon Ave with his head phones on when he was hit by a train.
Mathieu remained conscious. He said he managed to call for help.
"I just got out and called my dad," he said.
Mathieu walked away with cuts on both hands, across his face and other minor injuries. His family said their son is living proof that miracles happen.
"Keep believing in God. God is always in the business of making miracles," said Evelyne Bonhomme, Mathieu's mom.
While Mathieu is doing well, Norfolk Southern is reminding people to never walk on railroad tracks.
