HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - In about a year and a half, the now empty land off of Kings Mountain Rd. near the Henry County administration building will hopefully be taken up by the new Meadowview Elementary School.

Most of the money for the school has already been allocated, but work still needs to be done to get the site ready for the school to be built.

That was one of the topics of discussion at the Henry County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.

"There is a project as far as grading goes that we'll have to draw back out of it," said Joe Bryant, Collinsville District Supervisor.

Collinsville Primary School and John Redd Elementary School are being consolidated to form the new school. It will be the district's biggest elementary school, with around 600 kids.

Bryant says he would also like to see money spent to expand the size of the new school's gym, which currently is only set to be about three-quarters of the size of a standard gymnasium.

"I think that some of the other supervisors are in the same manner that I am, they'd like to see a full size gym because of the utilization of the building," Bryant explained.

The weather has delayed construction, but as long as construction starts back up in the next few days, the school should still be on schedule to open for the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

Something the school district is glad to hear, for the sake of the students as well as the community.

"We really view Meadowview Elementary not just as one of Henry County's schools but as a real center for our community," said Monica Hatchett, Henry County Public Schools Community Engagement Coordinator.
