CHATHAM (WSLS10) - As Hargrave Military Academy closed Friday because of a social media threat, law enforcement announced they were making progress in their investigation.

On Tuesday afternoon, the school received a threat via a direct message through one of the school's social media sites.

The threat claimed to have ties to ISIS and said something would happen at the school Friday.

Law enforcement and the school's president held a press conference Friday afternoon at the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

They said the message constitutes a crime and that they are getting closer to identifying a suspect.

"We have investigators reaching out and sifting through documents. We're going to identify the people that did this," Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor said.

As a precaution, a checkpoint was set up at the school's entrance Friday.

Sheriff Taylor said security will remain high at and around the school over the next few days.

The school also declared this weekend an open weekend, meaning cadets will be allowed to leave campus if they want to.
