ROANOKE (WSLS10) - Roanoke City Public Works clean-up crews hit the road Sunday night and have been busy throughout the day Monday.

City plow drivers work 12-hour shifts to clear the roads. Roanoke's Director of Public Works said drivers have to prepare for the job.

"In the case of our night shift, they need to alter their sleep schedules and that's something that's difficult to prepare for," said Director Bob Bengtson. "But, they do the best they can, because I think they recognize they are out there for extended periods of time."

To best be prepared, drivers are familiarized with their assigned routes and equipment in the fall.
