While motorists are encouraged to avoid travel during hazardous weather conditions, particularly during periods of icing, if travel becomes necessary, motorists should:

  • Knowing road conditions in advance of any travel. Check local media or visit www.511virginia.org and call 511.
  • Driving for the conditions: Slow down, ensure that windows and lights are clear of any snow/ice, avoid any sudden stops or turns and allow extra time for travel.
  • Be very careful on bridges, overpasses, and other areas prone to icy conditions.
