Some students even dressed the part to represent their state at the convention like Wilson Miller who is a junior at Washington and Lee.

He said this is his first mock convention and he wanted to make sure wouldn't forget, he even went as far as getting a tie with the Lone Star State.

"We're excited for this convention it comes around once every four years and we're here to represent out state so we got to do it big," Miller said.

Other students who attended the convention said this is their way to show that millennials can take a proactive approach to getting involved with politics.

"It's kind of great because we get this rep of being so not involved and being uninterested, I think 98 percent of the school is involved and it's pretty cool to be a part of it," Rebecca Harbison, a freshman at Washington and Lee said.

The mock convention has been going since 1908.

Over the weekend mock delegates will be researching articles, looking at voting trends, and talking to the real delegates in their states to predict the republican candidate who could win the White House.

It's a big responsibility to continue the record of accuracy, at the same time it's so exciting to be a part of the university tradition," said Andrew McCaffery, the chair of the mock convention.
